Sydney Great Aussie Camp Out
3rd to 4th October
2015
#NightUnderTheStars - Hosted by CampKings Australia
The Great Aussie Camp Out (GACO) brings together thousands of Australians for one big night where they share the experience of camping out under the stars... in their back yards, on a river bank, in a camp, a national park, a caravan park - in fact, anywhere they might feel like!
GACO promotes healthy active lifestyles, encouraging individuals, families, friends and clubs to enjoy the great outdoors experiencing the fun and adventure of camping out and no prior camping experience is necessary!
The Sydney, Hills & Surrounds GACO is hosted by CampKings Australia and we are happy to help you get out and spend a night under the stars. Our event is to encourage and support the national initiative to "Get More People Outdoors More Often" by bringing together campers and picnickers alike for a great day/night in the great outdoors! It is also a way that we can raise funds for the Foundation for National Parks and Wildlife and contribute to saving our threatened species and native wildlife in Australia.
This year we are lucky enough to have secured an awesome venue at Cockatoo Island, Sydney. This is a UNESCO world-heritage-listed island in the middle of beautiful Sydney Harbour.
In order to make your visit as easy as possible, after you have booked a Camping Package you'll have your campsite set up for you so all you have to bring are your sleeping bags, pillows and a torch. As soon as you arrive, you're ready to enjoy your stay.
The camping package includes a pre-erected Campmor Hennie Dome tent (2.4 x 2.4m), two mattresses and two camping chairs. Extra camping mats and chairs can be hired from the Accommodation Office if they are required and the tents sleep up to two adults and two small children, or up to three adults.
For food preparation, all campers have access to the communal camping kitchen that includes 10 barbeque areas, a fridge, microwave and a boiling water system. You will need to supply your own cooking utensils, cutlery and plates. Campers are welcome to bring their own food but barbeque and breakfast packs can be purchased from Societe Overboard, alongside its broad menu of café-style meals. There are other other food outlets that also offer a range of food and beverage options, including alcohol, which must be consumed in licensed areas. Ice can also be purchased and there are ample shower and toilet facilities for campers.
The campground has a range of products for hire, including: sleeping mats, sleeping bags, pillows, towels, chairs, tennis equipment and a small variety of toiletries, ponchos and torches for sale. Campground staff are always at hand to help you with anything you might need. Feel free to approach them!
