#GTFO to One Mile Beach

#GTFO to One Mile Beach

#GTFO One Mile Adventure Experience;

The CampKings Crew have returned from an awesome 3 night #GTFO adventure to One Mile Beach. Our destination was Active Holidays One Mile Beach Holiday Park and it is the only holiday park located right on the beach in beautiful Port Stephens. It is also the closest thing you can get to camping in the protected Tomaree National Park.

We arrived after an easy 3 hour drive North from Sydney, pitched the MEGA KIT from the Tar-POLE-In Range and our tent, (right next to our ensuite which was included on our site) set up our cooking facilities and settled in just after lunch time.

After checking out the holiday park we met some of the other friendly campers, celebrated "happy hour" and enjoyed some refreshing cool beverages. Then fired up the webber and got the BBQ cranking - As daylight savings had finished, we didn't want to be caught out late...

There is nothing quite like crawling into your tent, protected by the MEGA KIT from the Tar-POLE-In Range,  after some serous star-gazing and drifting off to sleep with the sound of the ocean (and it was quite angry the first night) as your own personal soundtrack.

The next morning we were awoken by the pleasant sounds of Kookaburras and after a couple of cups of fresh brewed coffee and a hearty breakfast, it was time to explore and discover. The kids were entertained all day between the free park facilities which included the giant jumping pillow, putt putt golf, huge swimming pool, and the camping games that we play on every trip - Bush Cricket, Bush Bocce, Hide and Seek and we even introduced them to "Goodies and Baddies"!

After lunch we made paper airplanes and had paper airplane races with the kids. Rest time for the big kids meant that there was time before dinner to ride bikes and scooters. It was a totally exhausting and eventful day so after a well earned Mexican Feast, we melted down our leftover chocolate Easter Eggs and simmered them into cups of tasty, frothy hot chocolate, lit up the Potjie King portable fire and roasted marshmallows over it whilst telling tales of heroics and scary stories until well into the night.

The night time here was very peaceful and apart from the periodic visit from some very curious and friendly possums and the soothing sounds of the sea, there was silence. It is a perfect starlit scene in which to relax and chat, enjoy a cuppa - or just wander with your own thoughts...

Discovery day was made up of walks across the beach and climbing the massive 30m to 40m high sand dunes & exploration through the rocks at the Southern end of the beach. We also managed to get in some fishing and a bit of a swim between the flags of course. The area is teeming with life if you look for it.

After heading back from the beach, it was time for the creative bones to be stretched and the kids took part in the free arts and crafts activities that were being held in the main hall where they completed model planes that we tied to our MEGA KIT from the Tar-POLE-In Range tarp set up.

About the Beaches

Anna Bay is a 2 km wide southeast-facing bay bordered by the rocky shores of Fingal Head to the north and Moana Point in the south. In between is a curving 2 km long section of sand containing two exposed beaches (NSW 231 & 232), most of which are located in Tomaree National Park.

Samurai Beach (Northern)

The northern Samurai beach curves gently to the southwest for 1.1 km to Samurai Point, a small boundary headland. It is backed by active dunes rising to 30 m and extending 800 m inland. The beach is accessible to 4WD and a popular spot for beach driving. It is also an official nude beach.

One Mile Beach (Southern)

The southern One Mile Beach, also known to surfers as Anna Bay, is 1.3 km long and curves round to face the east against the southern rocks. It also has dunes reaching 400 m inland at its northern end. At the southern end the dunes narrow and are backed by a caravan park, a shaded parking and picnic area and a kiosk. Wave height is low in the south averaging 0.5 m, but increases up the beach to 1.5 m along the central and northern half of One Mile and along Samurai.

A single bar dominates One Mile with a strong permanent rip against the southern rocks, and 3-4 beach rips increasing in size up the beach. The more exposed Samurai has two bars, the inner usually cut by four rips, while the outer has 2-3 large rips, including a permanent rip against the northern headland.

The CampKings Crew wish to Thank the Management, Support Teams and Staff at Active One Mile for a making ours a really pleasant and enjoyable stay. The facilities are well maintained and staff are friendly.

The CampKings Crew would also like to recognise that all of the campers that we met, both first timers and long term, were also friendly and respectful and this always makes for a great camping experience.
